“The George Team” making a difference!

The Sheep River Health Trust is pleased to announce our partnership with The George Traditional House on their upcoming Stampede Party being held Saturday, July 17th from 11:00 to 4:00 pm, outside in their parking lot. This is a fun filled family event offering a dunk tank, bouncer for children, free food and cheap drinks.

The George has chosen the Sheep River Health Trust as their charity of choice for the event.  Proceeds from the event will be donated back to the Sheep River Health Trust in support of the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Program.

Just as some of The George’s staff come to Canada to work and provide the best future for their families, the Sheep River Health Trust is committed to providing the best future for our children.  Programs such as Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies are imperative to giving some of the babies in our rural communities, the best start at life.

“Tony and his staff are amazing!  I was invited to their staff meeting on Sunday and I ended up leaving with tears welling in my eyes.  Tony employs men who live away from their families, they moved to Canada to work and provide for their families in their home countries.  As Tony commended these men for their dedication to their families, I looked around and everyone in the room was tearing up.  The sense of team was amazing and I can guarantee that not one person in that room was not thankful for something.  As a community, we are lucky to have business’ who employ great people, like The George does.  I am really looking forward to the Stampede Party and hope the community joins us!”, says Melissa Pryor, Fund Development Officer for the Sheep River Health Trust.

So how can you help?  Join us on Saturday July 17th and let’s have a great time while making a difference!

Care into Action

The Sheep River Health Trust (SRHT) is a registered charitable organization which raises funds for urgently needed programs, services and equipment to support health and wellness in the communities of Black Diamond, DeWinton, Longview, Millarville, Okotoks, Priddis, Turner Valley and the rural areas in between.

The Sheep River Health Trust works with health care professionals, community organizations, volunteers and donors.  Together we are touching lives every day by raising funds for the following:

Since 1994, the Sheep River Health Trust, formerly known as the Oilfields/Okotoks Health Foundation has raised over 2.5 million dollars from donations and net proceeds from fundraising events such as Golf 4 Wellness and Points of Light.  In 2009/2010, the Sheep River Health Trust raised $300,000 to help provide the resources to deliver optimal health care to our communities.

This year, the Sheep River Health Trust is focusing on enhancing our clients’ quality of life through projects such as renovations to the Rising Sun Long Term Care kitchen ($50,000), the purchase of a Hemoglobin Analyzer for the Laboratory at Oilfields Laboratory ($60,000) and a CR Kodak X-Ray Reader ($40,000) for the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre.

Sheep River Health Trust Prepares Strategic Business Plan

The Board members of the Sheep River Health Trust dedicated an entire afternoon on Monday March 1st to prepare a 5 year Strategic Business Plan. The Board is dedicated to ensuring that the Mission, Vision, Goals and Values of the plan are relevant to the ever evolving health care in the region that it serves. The group really worked hard as they laboured to produce accurate descriptions of what they wanted to accomplish as a Board. The hard working human side of the board is not often seen by the Public; rather the formal typical “Board” photo is what is usually released. The Board and all of the wonderful Volunteers who are hard at work everyday are what assist our health care services to improve every day. They are the unsung heroes who make tangible differences for all who reside in the community. Ancient Athenian Pericles would be proud of the total community involvement that the Sheep River Trust seems able to generate in this region. Please take time to thank these volunteers if you see them around and don’t forget that Board members are Volunteers too, not just some nameless, faceless entity that are paid to look after you. They do this to help build and create a community we all want to live in.
